In 1952 the worldwide distribution
of Dulcolax® began, marking a new era in the therapy of constipation and a
new generation of gentle, yet effective laxatives was born. Dulcolax® was
developed by Boehringer Ingelheim after the Second World War for people
suffering from constipation resulting from poor living conditions in Germany
aggravated by a shortage of food and medicine. Boehringer Ingelheim
developed and produced a new generation of laxatives containing the active
ingredient, Bisacodyl. |

Dulcolax®, unlike many traditional laxatives, is a gentle
yet effective laxative, which works in the large intestine where the stools
are dissolved naturally. It was developed to be used in small doses without
any major side effects: It does not cause diarrhoea or allow important
minerals (electrolytes) to be washed out, when used according to
instructions. |

 |
In the 70s a new liquid format was
launched with the substance Sodium Picosulphate, leading to the same
locally active laxative principle inside the large intestine like Bisacodyl.
In the 90s Dulcolax® brought a new solid and discrete to take product offer
to the market - the pearls. |

Nowadays Dulcolax® is recognised by
health specialists and consumers all over the world and established as one
of the most reliable and effective of laxative brands. |
